I remember a time, not all that many years ago, when pastors preached messages that majored on the Bible. These men spoke with authority! I remember churches with a passion to see people saved. They even had "Special Evangelistic Services" that sometimes ran every day for two weeks and beyond. People were saved and became involved with a local church. I remember music that centered on God and had content that conveyed Scriptural Truth. This music was ministry, not performance. I remember when churches called sins by name and called for repentance. I recall "deeper life" conferences that challenged Christians to become intense in their love for the Lord and live to honor Him. Something else comes to mind: I remember a local church in Portland, Maine that had a prophetic conference on Sunday afternoon that took two churches to accommodate the attendance. I remember Missionary Conferences (and messages) that challenged young people (and older people) to "surrender" their lives to full time Christian ministry. The result of this kind of preaching sent many young people into pulpits and many to remote and difficult places on earth to proclaim the Gospel. I have seen, with my own eyes, personal friends that have served faithfully for forty years or more on some mission field. Some of them are still serving today. I remember churches that preached against worldliness. I have seen upwards of two hundred people come out on a Friday evening to a "Bible Study." I knew of a church, as recently as the 60ies, that saw folk saved every day for over two years. I could go on but I think you get the idea. Selah! What has happened and what can be done about it? Ron
Consider:
"Remember, therefore, from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works, or else..........." (From Revelation 2:5).
Good morning, brother Ron. I would like to comment on (I remember when) and how do things look now. You are so right about churches today and everything going on. I remember back in 1975 when I got saved. (Praise GOD)! My parents used to always try to drag me to church. After listening to 3 sermons with the old Baptist preaching on hell, fire, and damnation, the Holy Spirit just dragged me right to the altar. Things sure are different today, that's for sure. Keep up the good work, Ron. God bless you all, Herb
