What has been left to you?
We were born "at war" with God. The only connection that we had with God was that He created us. However, we were born "rebels," those who were "...alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart" (From Ephesians 4:18). We were enemies! (See Romans 5:10). Our desires were centered on "ourselves," not God! We wanted what we wanted without any true interest in what God wanted. We would run our lives, not Him! We were characterized by: "Nobody is going to tell me how to run my life! I'll do what I please and live the way that I want to!" This meant no peace in our hearts, emptiness in our lives, lack of any purpose with eternal value, no understanding of what really counts, and no lasting hope beyond the grave. This only resulted in troubled minds and hearts, worry, anxiety, stress, and fear. When we opened our hearts to the Truth and surrendered our lives to Him, we found that the war was over. We are at peace with God and we now can draw upon the peace of God that is limitless. This is the "deep, settled, peace in our souls" about which the hymnwriter wrote. This is the "great peace," mentioned by the Psalmist, given to those who love His law (i.e; His Word). Selah! "There's a peace in my heart that the world never gave, a peace it cannot take away; tho' the trials of life may surround like a cloud, I've a peace that has come there to stay!' (Anne S. Murphy). Are you enjoying this peace? He has left it for all who receive and experience Him as Lord and Savior! Ron
Ron, Finally I'm getting around to reading these devotionals. So much fluff is passed around concerning Christian life. These counsels though are rich and applicable to my daily experience with God. Thanks,
