With the background of the last two articles, let's reflect on this from another angle. The first two articles dealt with essential elements that must be in place for Godliness to develop. Today, I'd like to be more descriptive. These may not be in order. In fact, all of these are rather a part of the picture. Once we know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we have access to our Father God. Godliness is being enthralled with God. It is being fascinated with Him. It is being awed by His greatness and holiness. It is being amazed and filled with gratitude because He loves us. It is learning to love what He loves. That includes His love for people and extends to His love for righteousness and purity. We loathe and abhor sin because He does. We grieve over what it does to us and to others. We marvel at His greatness and are filled with wonder over His splendor. We want to fellowship with Him in intimate companionship. We are motivated to honor Him. We delight to worship Him. These are some of the things that define Godliness. We must recognize that this is not our experience all at once. This slowly grows and becomes our experience as He reveals Himself, in His Word, day by day. Any day that we fail to have a serious and reflective quiet time alone with Him will obstruct our growth in Godliness. Selah! We have an exalted privilege to be in a personal relationship with our creator God. We must not ever fail to faithfully nourish it on the Scriptures and enjoy the marvel of it in prayer. Ron
The only way way to develop Godliness starts and finishes in these words. "And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself" (Luke 10:27). Let's move constantly forward in this direction!
