Desperado
Desperado,
Ohhhh you aint getting no younger.
Your pain and your hunger,
They're driving you home.
And freedom, ohh freedom.
Well that's just some people talking.
Your prison is walking through this world all alone.
Desperado,
Why don't you come to your senses?
come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you.
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you...ohhh..hooo
before it's too..oooo.. late.
This is one of my favorite songs. I copied and pasted 2 of the verses from the song here that I believe are powerful and communicate today. It is a fact of life that we need to be connected. Through different kids of connections we can find purpose and fulfill a great human need. It is amazing to me how lonely people are today. There are over 6 billion people in the world and yet billions of people are lonely at one point of their life or another. Crazy isn't it? I believe that God created this need in us to be connected with Him and others. Interestingly enough this need for relationships goes back...way back. It goes to the beginning of time.
The book of Genesis is the narrative of the beginning. It tells of the creation, fall and God's dealings with a specific people. On the 6th day of creation...God made Adam.
Genesis 2:15 - 23 (NIV)
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam [h] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [i] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [j] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, [k] '
for she was taken out of man."
It is not "good" for the man to be alone. Now granted in the context...this is speaking of Adam and Eve being brought together by God. This passage has been used and rightly so for marriage. But I believe it speaks of a greater need. The need for human connection. Adam was not meant to live life alone.....and neither are you.
This past Thursday night this truth became apparently real to me. A lady joined our group (Fusion Church - (see post - "A Revolution of Hope in Cape Coral") at Panera Bread this past week. While she was at Panera Bread this week she saw our flyer on the Bulletin Board. She found us and sat down talking with us. It became apparently evident that she was extremely lonely. She was reaching for some connection...she had been trying to fill that void in her life.
This connection is vital to the life of a believer. God did not create you to be a lone ranger "christian". I love the description of Acts 2 when it speaks of the early church.
ACTS 3:32-35
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.
In Christ everybody belongs. In Christ we have this sweet fellowship. These early believers knew what it meant to live in community. People are starved for Relationships in our world. People are starved for relationships within our churches! This should not be so...... May we be more like the early church.
The basis for all relationships begins with the most foundational one. It begins with a relationship with God. How are you connected to Him?
